1/4 c. shortening
1 egg
1/2 c. molasses
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. baking soda dissolved in hot water
1 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
2 c. flour
1/2 c. sour dough starter

Mix together shortening, brown sugar, egg, molasses and starter. In a separate bowl mix together flour, spices and baking soda. Add to other ingredients; mix well. Drop onto a lightly greased cookie sheet and bake at 400 degrees for about 10 minutes. Good like this or with a cream frosting.
