SUGAR & SPICE COOKIE (Ginger) 
3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1/4 c. molasses
2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. cloves
3/4 tsp. ginger (preferable 1/2)

Cream shortening and sugar. Add 1 egg and 1/4 cup of molasses. Mix dry ingredients together and add to mixture. Put in refrigerator for 30 minutes. Form into balls size of a walnut or smaller and roll in granulated sugar. Place on cookie sheet (greased). Bake about 10 minutes in 350 degree oven. These are better to be underbaked.
