1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1 egg
2 (1 oz.) squares melted chocolate
2 tbsp. cherry syrup
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1 1/2 c. cake flour
1 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. salt
1 c. milk
1/4 c. cherries

Stir shortening to soften; gradually add sugar, creaming until light. Add egg and chocolate. Add dry ingredients and milk. Beat well. Add cherry syrup, cherries and nuts. Bake at 350 degrees until done.

ICING:

1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 box confectioners sugar
2 tbsp. Crisco

Add enough hot water and milk to mix ingredients. Spread on cake and sprinkle with coconut.
