4 lbs. fat
1 can lye
3 qts. cold water
1/2 c. Borax
1/2 c. (household) Ammonia

Cook fat and lye stirring for 15 minutes. Pour water in one quart at a time and stir for 5 minutes after each quart. Add Borax and Ammonia. And stir until thick as cream. Pour out in a pan so it is as thick as a bar of soap. Cool and cut in squares.
