SOUTHERN SPOON BREAD 
1/2 c. butter
1/4 c. sugar
6 lg. eggs
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 1/2 c. cornmeal
2 1/2 c. water

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter and flour a 13 x 9 inch baking pan. Heat 2 1/2 cups water, 1/2 cup butter, 1/4 cup sugar, and 1 teaspoon salt to boiling in a large saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in 1 1/2 cups yellow cornmeal and cook, stirring constantly, until mixture is thickened about 2 minutes. Remove from heat and add 1/2 cup milk until smooth. Add 6 large eggs, then 1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder. Pour into prepared pan. Bake 35 to 40 minutes, until puffed and golden brown. Serve warm. Makes 12 servings.
