FIG PICKLE 
Combine:

3 qts. figs
1/2 c. soda
2 qts. boiling water

Let sit for 5 minutes; rinse in cold water until all soda is washed off.

Make a syrup:

1 c. cold water
5 1/2 c. sugar
1 c. vinegar (cider)
2 tbsp. whole allspice

Bring to a boil. Add figs. Boil 5 minutes. Adjust jar lids. Process in a boiling water bath canner for 10 minutes.
