1 lb. hamburger
1 med. sized onion
2 tbsp. raw rice
Salt to taste
Mix all together and shape into pieces two inches long and as big around as a quarter. For as many pieces as you have take that many big cabbage leaves. Cut the hard vein off in the cabbage leaf so that it is even with the rest of the leaf. Then drop the leaves of cabbage in boiling water until they are soft enough to roll or bend with out breaking. Then take one leaf and place a piece of your hamburger mixture in the center at the bottom of the leaf roll it over once then fold either the right or left side of the leaf over and continue rolling it up then push the remaining side of the leaf into the roll. Don't roll too tight as the rice swells when cooking and will break them open. In a deep pan or roaster, put a layer of sauerkraut, then the pigs, then another layer of sauerkraut, then put on top a couple pork steaks or pork chops. Cover with water and bake at 300 degrees for 5 hours. Keep adding water.
