CHOCOLATE DATE NUT REFRESHER
BARS
 
1 1/4 c. flour
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/4 c. (8 oz.) cut up dates
3/4 c. packed brown sugar
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. water
1 lb. powdered sugar
2 tbsp. butter
Grated rind of 1 orange
1/2 c. orange juice
6 oz. pkg. chocolate chips
2 eggs
1 c. nuts
1/2 c. milk

Sift together the flour, soda, and salt. Combine the dates, brown sugar, butter, and water and cook stirring constantly until dates soften. Stir in the chocolate chips. Blend in the eggs and mix well. Add the dry ingredients alternately with 1/2 cup orange juice and 1/2 cup milk. Stir in the nuts. Bake in a 15 x 10 x 1 inch pan at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes. Combine and mix the powdered sugar, butter, orange rind and enough orange juice for spreading consistency.
