EASY FRUIT CAKE 
1/2 c. shortening
3/4 c. sugar
1 egg
2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. baking soda
1 tsp. allspice
1/4 c. cloves
1 c. mixed fruit
1/2 c. cut-up dates
1/2 c. red cherries
1/2 c. green cherries
1/2 c. raisins
1/2-1 c. nuts
1 c. applesauce

Cream together shortening, sugar, and egg. Add flour, salt, soda, allspice, and cloves. Fold in fruit and nuts. Heat applesauce to boiling point. Let cool and add to batter. Pour into 10 inch tube pan. Bake at 350 degrees, 1 hour and 10 minutes. When cool, take out of pan and pour rum slowly over cake. Wrap in foil and refrigerate. You may pour rum over again the next day.
