SOFT MOLASSES COOKIES 
4 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. salt
1 c. shortening, use 1/2 butter
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 c. hot water
1 c. light molasses

Sift flour, salt and spices together in bowl. Then in large bowl cream shortening, butter and sugar together. Add well beaten egg. Mix the hot water and molasses together. Add dry ingredients and liquid into the cream mixture alternately. Drop by teaspoon onto ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. Makes 6 dozen.
