MINESTRONE SOUP 
1 lb. ground beef
1 c. chopped onion
1 c. cubed potatoes
1 c. diced carrots
1/2 c. diced celery
2 1/2 c. tomatoes
1/4 c. rice (raw)
1 sm. bay leaf
1/2 tsp. thyme
1/4 tsp. basil
1 1/2 qts. water
1 c. shredded cabbage

Brown beef and add next 5 ingredients. Bring to a boil. Add remaining ingredients. Simmer for 1 hour.

If desired, a can of beef broth or leftover roast beef may be added.
