SOPAPILLA MIX 
4 c. flour
3/4 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tbsp. shortening
1 c. warm water

Thoroughly mix dry ingredients; add shortening and mix until it is thoroughly dissolved. Slowly add about 1 cup warm water and kneed until smooth. Dough is a little stiffer than pie dough. Cover with damp cloth and let rise 1 hour.

For cooking: Roll out very thin and cut in rectangular strips about 3 x 4 inches. Cook in deep fat, oil, or shortening, turning until golden brown. Serve hot with butter and honey.

If they don't puff while cooking, oil is not hot enough or dough is not rolled thin enough.
