SHEILA'S BUTTER COOKIES 
1/2 lb. butter
3/4 c. sugar
1 egg yolk
2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream butter, sugar and egg yolk. Add dry ingredients gradually. Add vanilla. Pat into greased cookie sheet (one without sides is preferable). Baste with slightly beaten egg white. Score with fork. Sprinkle with tiny colored candies.

Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Turn cookie sheet in oven; cookies brown quickly so check the oven often after 20 minutes. Cut diagonally while hot (makes diamond shapes) and remove immediately from cookie sheet.
