FIVE SPICE CHOW MEIN | |
2 tbsp. cornstarch 1/4 c. dry sherry 2 tbsp. soy sauce 1/2 c. chicken or beef broth, cut into sm. pieces 1/4 tsp. five spice powder 3 tbsp. oil & garlic (2 cloves) 1 can sliced water chestnuts 1 1/2 lbs. beef or chicken, cut into small pieces 2 ribs celery, sliced 4 scallions, sliced 1 red pepper, chopped 1/3 lb. mushrooms, sliced 1 can bamboo shoots 1 can bean sprouts Chow mein noodles Dissolve cornstarch in sherry. Mix together with soy sauce, broth and 5 spice powder; set aside. Preheat 2 tablespoons oil in wok with the minced garlic. Stir fry meat. Remove from wok. Add 1 tablespoon oil. Stir fry celery, onion, pepper, water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, bean sprouts and mushrooms. Add meat and broth mixture. Heat until thickened. Stir in chow mein noodles. |
