2 c. self-rising flour
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 tbsp. vanilla
1 c. buttermilk

Mix ingredients well. Pour into greased iron skillet. Bake for about 30 minutes or until done. Butter generously and eat.
