WILLIAMSBURG CHOCOLATE - FUDGE
CAKE
 
1 c. butter
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
2 c. sifted flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
2/3 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla
3 oz. unsweetened chocolate, grated

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease and flour two 9 inch round 1 1/2 inch pans. Cream butter and sugar. Add the eggs one at a time and beat well after each addition. After the last egg has been added, beat for 1 minute or until the mixture is light and fluffy. Sift the flour with the salt. Mix the baking soda with the buttermilk and add alternately with the flour to the creamed mixture. Add the vanilla.

Melt the chocolate in 2/3 cup of boiling water. Stir until smooth. Blend the chocolate into the cake mixture. Pour into the prepared pan and bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour at 325 degrees or until the cake tests done. Cool in the pan. Frost with Chocolate Fudge Frosting.
