OAT MEAL CAKE 
1 c. quick oats
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening, creamed
1 1/3 c. flour
3/4 tsp. salt
1 1/4 c. boiling water
1 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon

TOPPING:

3/4 c. brown sugar
1 can coconut (or pkg. pecans or walnuts)
1/4 c. cream
1 stick butter
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix quick oats and water, let stand. Mix sugar, brown sugar and shortening. Add eggs, sift together flour, baking soda, salt and cinnamon. Mix all ingredients and bake in 9 x 13 inch pan at 350 degrees for 35 minutes.

Mix topping ingredients, spread on cake and broil. Watch closely to prevent burning.
