LEMON-CAKE BARS
1 pkg. lemon cake mix for 2-layer cake
6 tbsp. butter (3/4 stick), softened
4 lg. eggs
1 1/4 c. light corn syrup
1/3 c. packed brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 (8 oz.) can walnuts, coarsely chopped

About 2 1/2 hours before serving or early in day.

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 13"x9" baking dish.

2. Reserve 3/4 cup cake mix. In large bowl, with hands, mix butter, 1 egg and remaining cake mix until blended. Pat dough onto bottom of baking dish. Bake 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown.

3. Meanwhile, in large bowl, with mixer at low speed, mix corn syrup, brown sugar, vanilla, extract, 3 eggs and reserved cake mix until blended. Increase speed to medium; beat 2 minutes, occasionally scraping bowl.

4. Pour mixture over baked layer in baking dish; sprinkle with walnuts; bake 25 to 30 minutes until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in baking dish on wire rack. When cool, cut lengthwise into 3 strips, then cut each strip crosswise into 10 pieces. Store in tightly covered container. Makes 2 1/2 dozen bars.
