DATE-WALNUT DOUBLE DECKER | |
1 1/4 c. sifted flour 1/3 c. granulate sugar 1/2 c. butter Combine and blend to fine crumbs. Pack into bottom of greased 9 inch square pan and bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes until edges are lightly browned. TOP LAYER: 1/3 c. brown sugar, packed 1/3 c. granulated sugar 2 eggs 1 tsp. vanilla 2 tbsp. flour 1 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. nutmeg 1 c. chopped walnuts 8 oz. pitted dates, chopped Combine the sugars and eggs with vanilla and beat well. Sift flour with baking powder, salt and nutmeg. Add to creamed mixture. Stir in dates and walnuts. Turn into pan over hot baked pastry layer and bake at 350 degrees about 20 minutes longer. Cool in pan, sprinkle top with powdered sugar. Cut into 18 bars. |
