DARK FRUIT CAKE | |
2 c. sugar 1 c. butter 5 eggs, well beaten 5 c. flour 3 tsp. baking powder 1 c. liquid (cherry or orange juice or 1/4 c. whiskey) 2 boxes raisins 1 pkg. (8 oz.) each currants and dates 1 (8 oz.) pkg. figs 1 c. diced citron (or ready cut fruit) 1 c. walnuts 1/2 c. slivered almonds or walnuts 1 pt. jar maraschino cherries, or candied cherries 2 grated apples Sift 2 cups of flour over the fruit and mix in. Mix all ingredients well. Bake in a slow oven (250 F.) 2 or 3 hours depending on the size of the pans. |
