CORN BREAD 
Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Baking time: 20 minutes.

1 c. all-purpose flour
3/4 c. cornmeal (yellow)
1/4 c. sugar
3/4 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. melted shortening
3 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. sweet milk
1/2 c. buttermilk
1 egg
1 tbsp. melted bacon grease

Sift flour once, then sift again with cornmeal, sugar, salt and baking powder. Gradually add milk, beaten egg, shortening and bacon grease, which has been melted in 9 inch glass pie plate in preheated oven. Pour into hot pie plate. Bake 20 minutes, or until firm.

Serves 5-6.
