CRANBERRY COOKIES 
1 c. light brown sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1 egg, beaten
1 1/2 c. sifted flour
1/2 to 3/4 c. chopped fresh whole cranberries
A little white sugar
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. orange flavoring

Cream shortening and sugar. Add beaten egg, vanilla, and orange flavoring. Add salt, soda, and flour; mix together and then all chopped cranberries. Form into walnut size balls and dip top side in white sugar. Place on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees about 10 minutes. Cookies will be lightly browned on underside. They may appear to be a little soft in center. Do not overbake.
