DRIED APPLE CAKE 
4 eggs
2 1/2 c. dried fruit, mashed
1 c. lard, melted
2 c. sugar
4 c. flour
1 c. nuts
2 c. raisins
4 level tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. cloves

Add melted lard to mashed warm fruit, then sugar and beaten eggs. Sift flour, soda, and spices together; add to fruit mixture. Stir until well blended. Add raisins and nuts, stirring until well blended. Cake can be baked in layer or loaf pan.

CARAMEL FROSTING:

1/2 c. butter
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. evaporated milk
1 c. firmly packed brown sugar
Confectioners' sugar, sifted

Measure butter, salt, evaporated milk, and brown sugar into a small saucepan. Heat lightly just to melt butter. Mix until sugar dissolves. Add enough sifted confectioners' sugar to make right consistency to spread.
