CHERRY PUFFS 
Soften 1 package yeast in 1/2 cup of warm water. Scald 1 cup milk and 1/4 cup shortening, 1/2 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon salt. Cool to sifted enriched flour. Add 1 1/2 cups flour to milk mixture and mix well. Add softened yeast and 1 beaten egg. Beat well. Add flour to make a stiff batter. Beat thoroughly until smooth, cover and let rise until bubbly (about 1 hour).
