CHOCOLATE JAY CAKE 
3 sq. chocolate or 3 oz.
1/2 c. hot water
1/2 c. shortening
1 2/3 c. sugar
3 eggs
2 1/4 c. flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. sour or buttermilk

Mix chocolate with hot water. Cook to thick paste, stirring constantly 3-5 minutes; let cool. Cream shortening. Add sugar gradually and cream well. Beat eggs well and blend into creamed mixture. Sift flour. Add chocolate mixture and blend well. Sift baking powder, soda and salt together and add to the creamed mixture. Alternately with sour milk - pour into well greased and floured layer pans and bake.
