BLACK WALNUT POUND CAKE | |
1 sq. unsweetened chocolate, melted 2 sticks butter 1/2 c. vegetable shortening 3 c. sugar 5 eggs 3 c. sifted flour 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 5 tbsp. cocoa 1 c. milk, sweet 1 tsp. black walnut flavoring 1/2 c. chopped black walnuts Melt chocolate and set aside. Cream together butter, shortening and sugar. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Sift flour with baking powder, salt and cocoa. Use a bit of flour mixture to coat chopped nuts. Add flour mixture to creamed mixture, alternately with milk. Add flavoring, chocolate and nuts. Turn into a greased and floured tube pan. Bake in 300 degree oven for 1 hour and 45 minutes or until cake tests done. Cool in pan 10 to 15 minutes, then turn out on rack to cool. This cake is good to serve with cherry pie filling and whipped cream. |
