1 c. sugar or more if using Sake
1 c. soy sauce
2 tsp. grated fresh ginger
1 clove garlic
1/4 c. Mirin (see note)

Combine all ingredients in blender. This is a great marinade for beef, chicken, and fish.

NOTE: Mirin is sweetened sake and is available in gourmet food, oriental and some grocery stores (in the oriental food section). Regular sake can be substituted, but the sugar needs to be increased to approximately 1 1/2 cups.
