CHRISTMAS PICKLES 
1 gallon cucumbers
4 c. vinegar or enough to fill jar
4 tbsp. alum
4 tbsp. mixed pickling spices
4 tbsp. salt
8 c. sugar

Wash cucumbers and pack in a gallon jar. Mix all ingredients and pour over cucumbers. Put lid on and store in refrigerator until near Christmas. Open and pour off vinegar and spices. Wash cucumbers very well. Slice and mix with 8 cups sugar. Stir often until sugar dissolves. May be packed in small jars with lids. They do not need to be sealed. Will keep over a long period of time in the refrigerator.
