SWEDISH APPLE CAKE 
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. baking soda
Dash salt
1/2 tsp. cloves
3 c. peeled, diced apples
1/2 c. nuts
3 tbsp. butter
3 tbsp. brown sugar
2 tbsp. milk

Cream sugar, shortening, eggs and vanilla. Sift together flour, cinnamon, soda, salt and cloves. Add to creamed mixture. Add apples and nuts to batter. Pour into lightly greased pan (9x9x2). Mix together butter and brown sugar. Add milk to make a topping. Spread over batter. Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees F.
