MOTHER'S OLD FASHIONED COOKED
CHOCOLATE FROSTING
 
2 c. sugar
1/2 c. cocoa
1/2 c. whole milk
3 tbsp. butter
1 tsp. vanilla

Combine ingredients in a medium sized heavy-bottom saucepan. Cook until mixture forms a soft ball in cold water (238°F on a candy thermometer). Remove from heat and allow to cool until lukewarm.

Important! Do not stir after it comes to a rolling boil until lukewarm.

Beat until spreading consistency.

This frosting tastes great, like a fudge almost, but don't do what I did and beat it too long. I thought it could make it fluffier, but instead, it turned into one giant lump of frosting, too stiff to spread! The kids loved it anyway with devils food cake, and we just added a little whipped cream on top to cover up the looks of the frosting! Will make again, and not beat quite so long. :)
