RAISIN BREAD 
1 cake of yeast
2 1/2 c. warm water
1 tsp. salt
2 c. raisins
1 c. sugar
1 tbsp. shortening
1 1/2 qt. plain flour

Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water. Mix sugar, shortening, salt and remaining water. Add yeast, flour and raisins. Mix well. Turn out onto floured paper and knead. Put into greased pan cover. Let rise until double in size, knead again. Form into loaves, let rise again until double in bulk. Bake at 300 degrees for 1 hour. Yield 3 (1 1/2) pound loaves.
