RED VELVET CAKE 
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
2 eggs
2 c. sifted flour
Dash salt
1 tbsp. cocoa
1 c. buttermilk
2 tbsp. vanilla
2 (1 oz.) bottles of red food coloring
1 tbsp. vinegar
1 tsp. baking soda

Cream sugar, shortening, add eggs and beat. Add flour, dash salt, cocoa, add alternately with buttermilk, vanilla and food coloring. Beat well. Mix vinegar and soda, fold into batter. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes.

ICING:

1 c. milk
1/4 c. flour
1 stick butter
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla

Cook flour and milk to a pudding. Cream butter, shortening, sugar and vanilla. Add cooked cooled pudding and beat well. Ice cake.
