NON EDIBLE "GINGERBREAD
ORNAMENTS"

1 c. applesauce
3/4 c. cinnamon
2 tbsp. cloves
1 tbsp. allspice

Mix all thoroughly. Roll out 1/4 inch thick - no less! Cut with cookie cutters and cut hole out for hanger.

Lay on foil on cookie sheets. Allow to air dry for a few days. Can turn them over after they have dried for a couple of days but they're very fragile!

Non Edible "Gingerbread Ornaments"

If there are no plans to eat these, but simply to have them be nontoxic and smell good, basic salt dough can be used instead and will be much easier to work with as well as less fragile. Be sure to use the cheapest cinnamon you can buy (dollar store often has it!) as the is wasteful to use such a large quantity of good quality cinnamon for these. Simple salt dough recipe would be 1 cup flour, 1/2 cup salt, 1/2 cup water. You can easily add spices as desired. When you've rolled out the dough and cut your ornaments, save time and bake these at 250°F until they are completely dry. For even prettier ornaments, they can be sprayed with polyurethane to give them a lovely gloss.

This easy project is a great family holiday tradition-making priceless Happy Memories together... and cute ornaments too!

2 Questions for STEPHEN JACKSON... How much cinnamon is added to salt dough? And... Are all other salt dough ingredients same? Although I've made both in past - your ideas terrific and look forward to making, Thanks! :)
