TOM THUMB COOKIE BARS 
1/2 c. Spry or Crisco
1/2 c. salt
1/2 c. brown sugar, firmly packed d
1 c. flour

Combine Spry and salt. Add brown sugar and cream thoroughly. Add flour and blend. Spread mixture in 8x12x2 inch pan, greased with Spry. Bake at 325 degrees for 15 minutes or until delicately browned. This is crust or basis of cookies. 2 c. brown sugar 1 tsp. vanilla 2 tbsp. flour 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1 c. nuts

Beat eggs until lemon color and add brown sugar and vanilla. Beat again until mixture is thick and foamy. Mix flour and baking powder. Coarsely cut nuts and add. Spread this mixture over crust just baked and return to 325 degree oven and bake 25 minutes. Cool, then cut in small rectangles.
