MOM'S TEA CAKE 
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1 egg
4 tbsp. molasses
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
2 c. flour
1 c. boiling water

Cream shortening, sugar, egg and molasses. Sift together dry ingredients. Stir in flour mixture alternately with water. Bake in two 8 or 9 inch pans or a 7 x 11 inch pan. This makes a small cake. Bake about 25 minutes at 350 degrees.
