MRS. GEORGE'S HOMEMADE BREAD | |
5 c. flour 2 tbsp. salt 2 tbsp. sugar 1/2 c. shortening 1 1/2 pkg. yeast 2 c. lukewarm water Sift flour in large bowl, add salt, then shortening and yeast that has been dissolved in water. Knead well until dough is soft, but not sticky. Put in bowl and grease top well and let rise until doubled. Make into loaves and let rise until doubled again. Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 45 minutes. If soft crust is desired, cover with cloth. This dough may also be used for rolls. You may form your rolls and follow rest of directions except cooking time will be less. |
