OATMEAL COOKIES 
1 c. shortening
1 c. white sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 egg, beaten
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 1/2 c. quick-rolled oats
3/4 c. finely chopped nuts (optional)

Cream together shortening, sugars and egg. Sift together flour, soda, cinnamon and add it to the first mixture. Then add the oats, nuts and vanilla. Chill it for 1 hour. Then put walnut-sized pieces on a greased cookie sheet. Butter the bottom of a small glass, dip it in white sugar, and flatten out the little pieces.

Just keep doing this, you don't need to re-butter the glass bottom, just re-sugar it each time. Then bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.
