HAMBURGER SOUP 
2 lbs. hamburger, browned to bite-size pieces
2 med. onions, chopped
1/2 head cabbage (bite-size)
4 med. carrots, sliced thick
1 bay leaf
1/4 tsp. thyme
1 tsp. sugar
1 c. celery, diced
4 c. potatoes
1/4 to 1/3 c. rice (uncooked)
4 bouillon cubes
1 (28 oz.) can tomato puree or soup
1 qt. canned whole tomatoes, cut in pieces
1 tsp. salt
Dash pepper
12 c. water or part tomato juice

Cook beef and onion; drain off grease. Add other ingredients. Bring to a boil, then simmer for 1 to 1 1/2 hours.

Serves 20.
