LADY BALTIMORE CAKE 
3/4 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. lemon
3 c. sifted cake flour
3 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. milk
1/2 c. water
6 stiff beaten egg whites

Stir shortening to soften. Gradually add sugar, vanilla and lemon; cream until light and fluffy. Sift baking powder, flour and salt together 3 times. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk and water. Beat after each addition until smooth. Fold in egg whites. Pour into 2 paper-lined pans (9 inch). Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
