PORTUGUESE EASTER BREAD
1 1/4 c. warm water
2 envelopes active dry yeast
1 c. sugar
7 c. unbleached white flour
6 tbsp. powdered milk
6 beaten eggs
6 tbsp. soft butter
1 tsp. salt

Dissolve yeast in water. Add sugar, powdered milk, and 2 cups of the flour. Let bubble for 1/2 hour. Add 5 eggs, butter and salt, then enough flour to make a smooth, kneadable dough. Punch down, cut in half and shape into 2 round loaves; place in 2 greased 9-inch pie tins. Let rise until doubled. Carefully brush with remaining beaten egg and bake at 350 degrees for about 40 minutes. This bread is also known as Hawaiian bread.
