MOUNTAIN POUND CAKE 
1/2 lb. (2 sticks) butter
1/2 c. shortening
1 3/4 c. sugar
5 eggs
3 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. milk
3 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. lemon, optional

Cream butter, shortening and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time. Add flour and milk alternately; add baking powder with the last flour. Then add vanilla. Mix for 5 minutes. Pour into 10-inch tube pan, greased and floured. Place in cold oven, then turn oven to 350 degrees and bake 1 hour and 15 minutes. Do not open oven even once. Let stand a few minutes before removing from pan.
