SAUERBRATEN 
3 lg. sliced onions
3 tbsp. shortening
2 lb. round steak
1 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. flour
2 c. boiling water
2 tbsp. vinegar
1 tbsp. catsup
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
1/4 tsp. thyme

Brown onions in shortening. Cut meat into small bite-sized pieces and brown. Sprinkle flour, salt, pepper, ground cloves and thyme over meat. Add water, vinegar and catsup; simmer, covered, until meat is tender, at least 2 hours. Serve over noodles. Serves 6.
