FRUIT CAKE 
1 1/2 c. raisins
1 1/2 c. dates
2 c. sugar
2 c. boiling water
1 c. nuts
2 c. candied fruit
1 pkg. candied cherries
5 tbsp. shortening
3 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. salt

Place raisins, dates, sugar and shortening in pan. Simmer gently for 20 minutes. Cool. Put in all dry ingredients and stir into the cooled mixture. Add nuts and candied cherries. Pour into 2 well greased loaf pans that are lined (and greased) with wax paper.

Bake in slow oven 300 degrees for 1 1/2 hours. Keep in covered containers. Will keep for months. No wine soaking is required. Remove wax paper at once.
