CHERRY COFFEE CAKE 
1 c. butter
1 3/4 c. sugar
4 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. almond flavoring
3 c. all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 can cherry pie filling (other fillings are equally good too)

Cream together shortening and sugar. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each. Add flavorings. Mix dry ingredients together on a square of waxed paper. Add to creamed mixture and mix well. Take 1 cup of batter out. Spread remaining batter in a 15"x10"x1" sheet pan. Spread can of cherry pie filling evenly over the batter. Distribute the reserved batter over the cherries. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes.
