ELEPHANT EARS
1 1/2 c. milk
2 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
6 tbsp. shortening
2 pkgs. dry yeast
4 c. flour
Oil for frying
1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon

In a saucepan combine milk, sugar, salt and shortening; heat until shortening is melted. Do Not Let Mixture Boil. Cool until lukewarm and add yeast, stirring until dissolved. Gradually add flour 2 cups at a time, stirring until smooth.

Put dough in greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth and let rise until double, about 30 minutes.

Dust hands with flour and pinch off golf ball-sized pieces of dough. Stretch each piece into a thin 6-8 inch circle.

Fry, one at a time, in oil (350 degrees) until dough rises to the surface. Turn and fry other side until light brown. Remove from oil and drain on absorbent paper. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
