CUMBERLAND DRIED APPLE CAKE 
3 c. dried apples
1 c. molasses
1 c. butter
2 c. sugar
4 c. sifted flour
2 c. raisins, chopped fine
2 c. nutmeats, chopped fine
1 lb. dates, chopped fine
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. allspice
2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cinnamon

Soak dried apples overnight in water to cover. Next morning, drain, and chop apples very fine. Add molasses and simmer slowly until tender. Cool. Cream butter and sugar until light. Sift a little flour over raisins, nutmeats, and dates. Sift remaining flour with salt, baking soda, and spices. Stir into butter mixture. Add other ingredients and when well blended, stir in apples. Bake in greased and floured loaf pans for about an hour at 350 degrees. Makes 2-3 loaf cakes.
