BUTTERMILK POUND CAKE 
3 c. flour
3 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
1 c. buttermilk
6 eggs, separated
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. lemon extract
1/2 tsp. almond extract

Blend sugar and shortening in a mixing bowl, either by hand or with a mixer. Add egg yolks, one at a time and blend after each addition. Add flavoring.

Sift dry ingredients together and add to first mixture alternately with the milk. Begin and end with dry ingredients.

Beat egg whites until stiff and carefully fold into mixture. Pour batter into 10 inch tube pan greased and floured. Bake in 350 degree oven, preheated, for abut 1 hour and 10 minutes. Be sure too of cake is firm.
