BUTTERMILK ROLLS 
2 pkg. yeast
1/4 c. warm water
3 tbsp. sugar
4 c. flour
1/2 c. melted shortening
1 1/2 c. warm buttermilk
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt

Combine yeast and warm water. Add buttermilk, sugar and shortening. Sift into this the mixture of flour, soda and salt. Beat until smooth and let stand 10 minutes. Roll out and shape into rolls. Let rise 30 minutes, in warm place. Bake at 400 degrees until brown (about 15-20 minutes). Large pan takes 30-35 minutes. Makes about 2 dozen rolls.
