Day 1: Received from friend 1 cup starter or make starter from recipe below. DO NOT REFRIGERATE. Keep in closed glass jar. Day 2: Stir once each day. (Do not beat.) Day 3: Stir once each day. (Do not beat.) Day 4: Stir once each day. (Do not beat.) Day 5: Add 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar and 1 cup milk; stir. Day 6: Stir once each day. (Do not beat.) Day 7: Stir once each day. (Do not beat.) Day 8: Stir once each day. (Do not beat.) Day 9 Stir once each day. (Do not beat.) Day 10: Add 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar and 1 cup milk; stir. Pour 1 cup of mix into each of 3 jars and give to friends. (Make sure the lid is tight.) Give directions for making the Bread to each friend. To the remaining 1 cup of batter you have left, add the following: 2 c. plain flour 1 c. sugar 1/4 tsp. salt 3 eggs, beaten 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1 1/4 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. baking soda Beat and pour into 2 or 3 greased and lightly floured loaf pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 45-50 minutes. This batter expands. If put into too small of a jar, it will overflow on Day 5 after adding flour, sugar and milk. Put batter into a 48 ounce jar as a quart jar will be too small. Before baking add whatever you would like -- bananas, nuts, raisins, dates, apples, etc. BREAD STARTER: 1 pkg. yeast 1/2 c. lukewarm milk Pinch of salt 1/2 c. lukewarm water 1 tbsp. sugar Enough flour to make like pancake batter Mix and stir all together. Makes 1 cup of starter. Follow above directions. |
