ORIGINAL TOLL HOUSE COOKIES | |
1 c. plus 2 tbsp. sifted flour 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 c. softened butter or shortening 6 tbsp. granulated sugar 6 tbsp. brown sugar, packed 1/2 tsp. vanilla 1/4 tsp. water 1 egg 6 oz. pkg. (1 c.) Nestles semi-sweet real chocolate morsels 1/2 c. coarsely chopped nuts Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Sift together flour, baking soda and salt. Set aside. Combine butter, sugar, vanilla and water; beat until creamy. Beat in egg. Add flour mixture; mix well. Stir in chocolate morsels and nuts. Drop by well rounded 1/2 teaspoon onto greased cookie sheets. Bake 10-12 minutes. Makes 50 (2 inch) cookies. The ingredient that was in the original recipe that isn't in todays is 1/4 teaspoon of water. I still have the chocolate chip bag with the recipe on it, probably in the late 40's - price $.89 (6 ounce package). |
